Welcome to ELBOPA

Picture
The East Lansing Band and Orchestra Association (ELBOPA) would like to extend a "hello" to new and returning band and orchestra parents and guardians. In addition, this year, we would like to extend our welcome to all MacDonald Middle School parents and guardians. We look forward to having you join in our proud tradition of family involvement and support of the East Lansing instrumental music program. It is ELBOPA's goal to provide support to our children's performances and educational opportunities in band and orchestra through volunteer and fundraising efforts.
ELBOPA is a parent volunteer organization that meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the high school orchestra room. We encourage parent and guardian involvement in our meetings and activities.
This new school year marks some new beginnings for ELBOPA and the East Lansing instrumental music program. We now include MacDonald Middle School in our organization; our purpose is to support the entire East Lansing instrumental music program. Our program is indeed growing:
• Encore Strings – the audition strings group – is an official class. Students who participate in this group will receive credit on their high school transcripts.
• Our high school marching band fielded 80 students this fall, the highest number of marching band members in over 10 years.
• Over 400 students are participating in band in grades 5-12. This is the largest number of band students ever.
• Likewise, the 280 students in grades 5-12 participating in orchestra is the largest number for the East Lansing string program.
We are all very proud and thankful for the leadership.
